To make things even more confusing for myself, the name of the first story, is also the name of the series.

Anyway, here's a little information on the series and the universe in general.  If you've got any questions, post them here.

Lord Forseti is a young deiva who rules over a territory in the Borderlands, which is sort of a No-Mans-Land between the countries of Mag Mell and Donara.  Since it's not truly in either country, it sort of has rules all its own - determined by the lord of the individual territory.

Forseti employs haldeiva and some fey as agents, whom he calls Snow Lions.  They are tasked with patrolling his lands and seeing that all the people receive "justice" according to the laws.  Their uniforms are  high-collared shirts with tabard-like garments over them.  Some wear pants cuffed at the ankles, others wear skirts or pants without cuffs.  Most wear slippers.  Each division consists of approximately fifty members and is broken down into five to eight squads.  Most often fight against vampiric fey in the area.  However, they also keep peace within the territory and battle against such threats as rogue dragons, giant spiders, tentacle creatures and whatever other terrors they might run across.

Deiva are higher beings that some humans worship as gods.  Haldeiva are beings, which can turn up in any deiva family, that have some attributes in common with deiva but age in a dramatically different way.  As a result, there is strong prejudice against them and many are live as virtual slaves.  Those in Forseti's service are a rare exception.
